Thoughts on the Russo-Ukranian War?

One day after the first ATACMS is delivered to Ukraine, Putin is going to claim his military already destroyed 60 of them.
That would be a novelty for the Russians as usually they are destroying western equipment in Ukraine long before it arrives there, the next stage will be Medvedev threatening nuclear retaliation and Russian TV mouthpieces claiming they will have to reclaim Washington but in the end Russia will destroy every single one of them by cleverly putting logistics hubs and bridges in their way.

This looked interesting, are they any good for say winter operations?

They work well in Norway during winter operations, so they should do the trick in Ukraine as well

I wondered about that as they were based on the old M-113 which didn't have a lot of ground clearance and narrow track width as such I thought they would struggle in heavy snow and mud.

I think they handle the snow and the swamps like how a snowmobile does it, but it has narrow tracks. Is it amphibious?

It has amphibious capabilities but the M-113 was a chiropractors dream, most uncomfortable thing I have ever experienced, we ditched the last of ours in 2005.

Well all I can say is about f***ing time...

I think it will repeat itself when the Ukrainians get the F-16 and what kind of munition the Ukrainians want to use

Precisely, Leopards, Abrams, Bradley's, the Russians were wiping them out almost from the day they were announced as going to Ukraine.
The funny thing is that Russia seems to believe it would bother the west when they do eventually destroy one, it escaped them that:
A. That all the equipment we have sent is largely retired and surplus to requirements so we already have better.
B. Even in it's destruction we learn from it which makes future generations of equipment better.
C. It is built to operate in an environment designed to destroy it, if it is doing its job the crew will walk away from that destruction.
And we get all this information for a fraction of the West's collective defence budgets.

Ok I have a question that applies to both sides here (as both do it), I have watch a number of videos of CASEVAC teams being targeted, is this legal?
I understand it has gone on throughout history, but it was my understanding that wounded or sick combatants who were no longer taking part in hostilities were "protected".

Yes, it is illegal to target sick and wounded combatants during armed conflicts. The writing about it is somewhere in the Geneva Convention. But it happens all the time.

The strange thing is that I was always told that it took more resources (In terms of manpower and material) to treat wounds and rehabilitate someone or repair equipment as it tied up recovery people, medical/repair crews, rehabilitation people and logistics to get things back to operational and these were all people who were not adding anything new to the front.

That's the accepted theory, especially if 1 or more shooters help a buddy to the rear it would degrade your numbers quickly vs leaving the wounded to be tended by others.

Has Putin lost the plot? Yesterday I read that puti8n wants to take back Alaska, is he freaking demented. If he tries Moscow will cease to exist, and what with the Russian fighter aircraft attack on an RAF aircraft in international airspace could have lead to WW3

If he had been sane he wouldn't have started it in the first place.

I am not sure he is behind the Alaska idea as much as it is the weird delusionions of some pro-Putin nutters like Medvedev, who screams "nuclear war" at every breath.

I am however gradually starting to think the West will have to get involved eventually as I can't see a way out of this for Russia.

If there was any pro
Which is why I think it is more accurate to say that these countries don't want Ukraine to lose as they are simply not doing enough to allow Ukraine to win.
I am reading a number of articles where there is a suspicion that North Korea may provide personnel to support Russia, if that is the case then I expect it won't be too long before the west will have to provide some level of troop support as well, something that should be pointed out to Russia.
If there was any proof of North Koreans fighting in Ukraine, the BBC,Guardian, Economist, NYT, WAPO, they would have published these proofs during weeks and US would threaten NK.
A suspicion without a proof is worthless .

Unlikely as the general consensus was that they would be used in support roles such as logistics, engineering, industry freeing up Russians for the front.
I would also point out that no one is suggesting that it has happened yet as the NK/RF meeting has only just taken place as such suspicion will be proven or disproven by time.

I guess the North Korean will supply the Russians with ammunition and not deploying North Korean forces to Ukraine

Slovakia may change its policy toward Ukraine, but it cannot afford to change too much if they want any EU money. Slovakia wasn't a big supplier of military hardware to Ukraine even before the election. Slovakia provided Ukraine with its old Russian equipment like what many other former Warsaw Pact countries did
