Thoughts on the Russo-Ukranian War?

That is starting from the u
I think we are watching the development of a new military doctrine or rather an old one in a new shape.

The West cannot demand the Ukrainians to be successful when they lack the support from the West to do it
Think Hitler & Stalin agreed to divide Poland before it started. Wasn't aware of the WWI thing.

There was in January 1919 an anti-Romanian uprising in Khotyn by Ukrainians, this uprising was suppressed by the Romanians ,between 5000 and 15000 people were killed .
After the fall of the USSR there was a de facto war between Moldava and Transnistria, which was supported by Ukraine and Russia.
About Poland : no division meant that Hitler would take the whole of Poland, which was unacceptable for Stalin .Stalin accepted a Polish occupation of Western Ukraine and Western Belarus but not their occupation by the Germans . .

They like plausible deniability in Russia, like their elections they rig them but would prefer not to rig them too much unlike Belarus who can announce the result and winning margin a month before voting.

There is also some rumours that it was taken down by an air defence missile.

Private plane apparently, but the Russian media knew almost immediately that he was on the passenger list. If it wasn't a "hit" how long would it take to ID the plane & then get a copy of passenger list....

I read the Ukrainian special forces raided the Crimea. I thought the Ukrainian SF have been active there since the beginning of the war. I also read the Ukrainians have completed the training with the Abrams tanks. I think they will launch a major attack from the Kherson region against Crimea. They are slowly degrading the Russian forces ability to conduct military operations. The Russian forces should be more effective if they fought in a mobile way, but yet their command structure prevent them from doing it.

I think those raids are more PR than useful.

I never thought I would agree with Lindsey Graham but I think in this case he is right and it is probably the line the Biden administration should be pushing...

In other news the Russian T-10 of 1949 is heading off for refurbishment.

There are images of them being loaded onto transporters.

The passenger manifest of the plane that went down in Russia is essentially a who’s who of Wagner mercenaries, including its second-in-command, who baptized the group with his nom de guerre, as well as the logistics chief, a fighter wounded by U.S. airstrikes in Syria and at least one possible bodyguard.

And, of course, Yevgeny Prigozhin himself, Wagner’s leader and mutineer, who many believed was a marked man after his short-lived uprising in June against the Russian military.

In all, the other passengers included six of Prigozhin’s lieutenants, along with the three-member flight crew. For company leaders who were called out by the Kremlin as traitors to travel together on a single flight appeared to be an extraordinary breach of security. The purpose of the trip was unknown.

from a newspaper article.

The next logical step before we see T-34s in Ukraine.

They most likely picked somebody up or delivered SF to Crimea. The Ukrainian version of Uber.

It does not matter if he was killed on the order of Putin, next week, he will be forgotten and our media will search for some other irrelevant thing ,maybe new claims about Nord Stream ?
After his failed operetta coup ,P was out .Besides the Wagner group's importance was not the importance our media told us .Its importance was almost nihil :the Wagner group was suited for coups and guerilla wars, not for wars of attrition .Question : did the Wagner group volunteer for the war,or was it ordered to join the war, and: if so,why ?
If you use special forces in a war of attrition, this means that you are short of classical forces . The war will continue without the Wagner group .

Fat chance, half of them won't exist and half of what does someone will have stolen and sold the blades.
The Ukrainians can launch a covert operation by their special forces. Park a truck full of vodka outside every Russian military base in the occupied areas, wait for an hour and then commence the assault.

We all knew Prigozhen was a dead man, the big question most people had was why didn't he know it and why did pretty all of Wagner's senior staff decide to get on a plane with him at the same time.

I can't remember the guys name but it was a high ranking Russian officer who defected in the 70s claimed that if the west ever wanted to invade Russia they should do it on New Year's eve as everyone is so drunk they couldn't do a thing to stop it.

I have heard it about May 1 and November 7 too. I don't think they care much about the latter one anymore

We might see the IS-2 tanks before we see any T-34s in Ukraine.

Ukraine claims they have broken through the Russian defense line in the south and the Russians have deployed their 76th airborne to counter the Ukrainian break through.
