How do we deal with Pirate attacks?

If you want so much peace in the world why don't you and your govt start by at least trying to something about pirates instead of turning a blind eye to them? or are you just scared of a few warlords who have taken control of your country?

Some of you keep saying "somalis need to stabilize their country" or "you need to fix your country" etc... But the fact of the matter is and it still stands how do u expect us to fix our country, how do you expect us to stabilize Somalia when you keep overthrowing those the Somali people have tasked to fix the Somali problem and stabilize the country. Its easy to make accusation about how Somalis don't wana fix their country but as soon as we try to it is overthrown because it was a Islamic government.

You all keep accusing the UIC, im not a UIC fan myself but at this point they were the only ones that could have stabilized Somalia, their have been not one single shred of evidence linking UIC to terror or any terror sponsoring group. At this point by getting rid of the UIC you have made Somalia worser than any point in its civil war because now you have groups like Al shabab who have sprung up claiming they are defending Somalia from American-Ethiopian invasion. Just like the Iraq war created such groups as Al qaeda in Iraq, the American sponsored Ethiopian invasion of Somalia created such groups a Al Shabab simply because you couldn't let Somalia sort out its internal affairs and had to overthrow the UIC.

Also the ends justify the means? It is ok to carry out mass extermination through nukes as long as it is done to solve a problem? WOW if we go by that line of thinking then many people should be able to use nukes to solve problems and we can all have nuclear holocaust

If memory serves the UN and a multinational UNITAF tried twice to help Somalia stablize itself. Twice Somali's managed to force the UN's departure through extended violence against the UN and other NGO's, until the wasn't worth the price of aid workers and peacekeepers lives to try to fix something that was unfixable. Excuse me if I shed no tears over Somalia, they made the bed they can sleep in it.
 
I suggest you eliminate the laws the UN passes that does not allow weapons on ships. There would be less pirate attacks if were were allowed to defend themselves.

Listen what I am saying is not that the UN and a multinational force has to be committed to Somalia, nor what I am saying is that you should shed any grief, but what I am saying and you have failed to answer is: But the fact of the matter is and it still stands how do u expect us to fix our country, how do you expect us to stabilize Somalia when you keep overthrowing those the Somali people have tasked to fix the Somali problem and stabilize the country. We are going to fix it ourselves we don't want anyone to fix it for us, nor do we ask for your grief what we ask for is for you all to stay out of our internal affairs and let us stabilize our country. How can we stabilize our country when you keep overthrowing those the Somali people have tasked to fix Somalia? It takes a grown man, it takes a responsible country to admit your share of the blame about your hand in creating this problem in Somalia by overthrowing the UIC and empowering these pirates and warlords who were in the run from the UIC. All you want to do is heap blame at Somalia, you should ask yourself: How can the Somalis fix their country like we expect them to if we keep overthrowing those people the Somali people have tasked to clean up Somalia?

And yet not a mere word mentioned about how Somalia plunged themselves into anarchy with the civil war or managed to alienate the rest of the world. Not one mention that some how it reached this point by the Somali's not being able to work together and get over clan power plays and feuds and build a country when help was there. No just the blaming of the west.

This is usual throughout Africa. South Africa's ANC and Zimbabwe's Mugabe are still blaming apartheid and white colonialism for every **** up they make, instead of taking responsibility for the mess that THEY made.

For one thing, the last thing we need on this planet is another islamic regime, the ones already here are enough of a problem.
For 2, O3 is right, I remember a few friends of mine who were killed by the "civilian" population for trying to help Somalia, you want my help? Heres the help I'll give you, get a gun and start shooting the bad guys. You want help? set up a government, not another islamic regime.

On top of that, how in Gods name can a islamic government stablize anything in the first place?
I still say a Battleship set off teh coast blasting 16' shells at the pirates would get rid of them, and anything else that tried to take over innocent workers ona ship in international waters.

HMS Malmö arrested the pirates and sunk their vessel.
Just as the Absalon did.

They are getting handed over to Somali authoraties so I´m guessing they are out trying to jack another ship as soon as they have replaced their vessel.
Their speedboats will have to run short soon at this rate though..;-)

Geting their act togeather is a good thing, but as I have made perfectly clear to just about everybody on here, I aggree with 13th, too bad the boats are still afloat.

I belive that the only way to deal with pirates is the same way we have always delt with them. you have to kill them. they are like terrorists in boats. you can negotiate but there is almost a 100 percent chance that the negotiations will fail, as pirates are,like terrorists not open to talk. violence is thier language.
