The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.
"any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent (the last opponent typically being the goalkeeper). The arms are not included in this definition. This is taken to mean that any part of the attacking player named in this decision has to be past the part of the second-last defender closest to his goal line (excluding the arms) and past the part of the ball closest to the defenders' goal line.

Like the 'hand of God' which threw England out if the quarter-finals in 86? and Ireland out of the finals this year. I'm not aware of this rule, it depends which side you are on I suppose, but unless we have videos to make fair objective assessments, we will all have to take refereeing decisions on the chin, like the random bounce of the ball and near misses which can turn a game either way.When in doubt, the decision should be in favor of the attacker.
The world champions Italy go out beaten by Slovakia. Quite hectic at the end with a flurry of goals and a rugby scrum in the back of the net at one point!
New Zealand go out without losing a match, hard luck Monty!
I'm not aware of this rule.
Everyone including foreign (aka non-US biased) soccer analyst EXPERTS who I'm quite sure have more credence to their opinions than a man on a forum. Sorry, friend, but I'll take Steve McManaman's opinion over yours every time.You could be right, but this is the US manual not FIFA

Perhaps you are getting confused with this FIFA rule
1990: The offside law is changed in favour of the attacker, who is now onside if level with the penultimate defender.

rather silly rule in my view, one is either ahead or behind never level, it depends how accurately you measure it! It should say 'favour the attacker if you can't tell' which would make more sense!
Either way the officials decision was right in this case, despite everyone thinking otherwise and taking views without analysing the evidence. Perhaps all the other decisions were wrong and against the US, but if so prove it and post the evidence like I have.
