From the great achievement of the regiment at the Battle of Chickamauga, 1863, when it formed part of General Thomas' command which earned the name of the Rock of Chickamauga. At the end of the second day (September 20th) there were four officers and fifty-one men for duty and the regiment was commanded by a second lieutenant.
