What is your favorite firearm? #2

i think hk fixed it in the newer series, but im not sure if the old scopes will be replaced.....
maybe when they are sent back to hk in some years for general inspection

Well I hope that the new H&K rifles that we're getting don't have that problem with their high-speed internalized scopes, not that you really need a scope at all with the effective range of the XM8 anyway, but that's a different issue  .

i think the xm8 wont have that problems.
hk should have learned from the g36 ......
by the way i think that the xm8 is a g36 in a new costume

Does the G36 only have a 12.5 inch (sorry, don't know the metric conversion) barrel too? I need my range to feel safe, probably comes from growing up in a very open area.

The G36K has the 12.5inch (380mm) barrel its sometimes used by specialised units like airborne rangers etc.

But the usual G36E used in the whole german army has a 480mm (18.9inch) barrel. It can also be used as a light machine gun.

Our KSK(special forces) uses also the G36C, its the G36 with the lenth of a MP. Its barrel is 11.3inch (288mm) long

Though the German army used the G36, not the export G36E?

See, the standard barrel length on the XM8 is 12.5 inches/380 mm, as opposed to the 20 inch barrel on the M16A2, cutting around 100m off the effective range of our main infantry armament, which I do not believe is a good idea at all, given our deployment in Afghanistan and the greater distances that area brings.

Well I was comparing it to our existing rifles (the M4 and M16 families), which have longer barrels and enjoy a resulting greater range, a weight trade-off I am not happy about (of course, heavy armor units don't really have to worry too much about rifles  ).

 No Sir, I was talking about myself, I'm trying to get myself branched Armor. Actually we got another Mech guy here, JaegerWolf was in a mech unit.

hot dang

My fav is the AR-15 equipped with night vision scope. It kicks ass when it needs to get the job done in a hurry.

I have to say the most fun guns to shoot are the 25mm on the Bradley(MECH INF baby!!!) and the M240B. I also liked shooting the Glock 22, 1911, and the M16A4 is fun to shoot WHEN IT DOESN"T JAM. Mine never jammed to much I always kept the bastard as clean as I could. Even so it still jammed more than I thought it should.

I want to hear about the G36. I have heard nothing but good things about the stuff that HK has come out with.

The G36, is not a roller-locked blowback like the MP5, G3, etc. It has confusing red dot and tele sight system, profussion of cheap plastic moldings, the iron sights are flimsy, and it's not very good for longer range shooting. On the positive, you can put rounds through it like no one's business and it won't jam (works just as well under normal range conditions as it did in the mtns of A-stan.) It's reliable and doesn't hurt your hand in sub-zero temps. All in all, I'd say it's a good rifle for conventional troops, but not so great for more specialised units.
