Yes I am away, but you first asked bluntly what could have Hitler hoped for out east.

We now know it was an ego thing, but honestly many of his commanders and even historical hindsight can say, oil for the German war machine, and obviously lots of snowy wasteland on along the way would be good things to have hoped for.

However he had other plans. (Thankfully)
