So you like the meatballs, how about moving to

Interesting !

I’ve been looking up the area surrounding the town of Götene and it’s very scenic.

How far is Götene from you @I3BrigPvSk
Admittedly it is interesting from a holiday home point of view, we gave some thought to a similar deal an Italian town had going but they had some restrictions that would have made it difficult.

However, I didn't see an IKEA in any of the pictures.

The weathers nicer in Italy !

True but you were required to live there for a sizable amount of the year, the property had to be developed within certain timeframes etc.
By the end it was more realistic to get a hotel room or hire a villa.

Looks like the Swedish proposal is similar with visa requirements etc.

Things were fine until the UK left the EU, the wife is American so we can return there if we want to (but the convention of lunatics running for office puts both of us off that) and I had an EU passport based on English grandparents which is now screwed up (although I haven't looked into how Brexit affects me).
In a few years I intend to at least reduce my work hours and we were looking at ways of following summer for a bit which made these sorts of things interesting, but they all seem to be just out of reach.

Post-Brexit, UK passport holders can stay within the Schengen area of up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa.

Maybe I need to listen to the wife for once and claim German citizenship and live as a dual-national !

Well that makes things interesting.
The German option is interesting as the wife's grandparents are German but I am uncertain as to the requirements for that.
The EU passport is better suited to those of us in the southern hemisphere heading to Europe as it means we can take Emirates to Dubai and then go directly into any European city, it is much shorter than NZ - Hong Kong/US - UK - Europe.

You’re too close for comfort ! 🫣🫣

There is an extra full stop at the end of the original link above. This should work:

As far as I recall everything in Sweden is "a bit over an hour away", it is a ubiquitous statement rather like having "a drink" in Finland.
The second link had some of the caveats on purchasing the land.

Germany has recently made things easier for those wanting to become German citizens. New law was passed just a few weeks ago.

Have a lookup of Gesetz zur Modernisierung des Staatsangehörigkeitsrechts (Law to Modernise Nationality Law) which details the process and requirements.

Ah German, one of the great romance languages... or did you sneeze?

The other linked work. I have been to Götene. It has one of the largest gun stores in Sweden. It is a rural area and I don't want to live there

Hehe I was just listening to David Mitchells "The Unbelievable Truth" and they were saying IKEA is designed like a maze to keep people in there longer and increase their impulse buying as they didnt want to have to go back and find an item.

As yet we dont have IKEA (the first one is under construction in Auckland and it will take decades for it to open the next one).
