Only in America

Doc.S, Northern Idaho is a nice area. One slight drawback is that there are a few extremist groups headquartered up there. From what I understand, you'd never know they were there at all unless you went looking for them. Neo-Nazis, religious fanatic "survivalists" with plans to survive through an "inevititable" Nuclear Holocaust. That sort of thing.

Idaho is the most mountainous state in the USA -- a great percentage of it is covered by mountain ranges than any other. I met my wife while going to school in southern Idaho. Here's a pic of Idaho - http://gocalifornia.about.com/cs/idmap/l/bl_idstmap_topo.htm

As far as Almost Heaven is concerned, it looks like Bo Gritz is up there and partially responsible for creating the place. He's a Mormon ... sorta. The Latter Day Saint Church (aka Mormon Church) has almost excommunicated him several times for his radical views being too extreme. I think they finally did it, but I'm not 100% sure. He's currently leading some fanatical religious group headquartered in Almost Heaven. He's one of those weirdos that I'm talking about. Some links for Almost Heaven:
http://www.newswest.com/crossingline/group1.html
http://www.rickross.com/reference/militia/militia88.html
http://www.militia-watchdog.org/gritz.asp

Almost Heaven isn't big enough to show up on any map that I know of, but its close to Kamiah. Go here: http://www.visitidaho.org/mapsimages/maps.cfm and click on North Central, and you can see where Kamia is.
I'd say that the general neigborhood is a good one, but I don't know if Almost Heaven is a great choice -- till the Feds toss Gritz outa there.

The part about how to use a gun that they missed and the very first thing that my father taught me: The barrel never ever ever points at another person ... ever.

I don't doubt that those maniacs know how to use the weapons, they're just idiots. Inner city can do all the gun control they want as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe the Government should make the gun manufacturers add a sign to the business end of a firearm that has a message similar to the one on anti-personnel mines,"This End Toward Enemy". :D

Hey Thanks godofthunder9010 :D

Well I dont know what I should call myselfe? *Lol* Well I am bit of a "survivalists" I see it from that perspective that I am looking for a safe place to move where I can experiance the nature and not have to worry about nuclear power plants that indigestible as the nuclear power plant in Tjernobyl 1986 where the fallout from that reactor killed over 1000 sweeds and made almost all hunting impossible over here. No eatable fungus, mushrooms or berries could be gathered even if the woods were full of them for almost 6 years. No fish no elk, deer, roe deer, capercaillie hunting at all. It was a nightmare for some of us. Thats why I dont want to move to a place with nuclear power plants close enough to destroy the nature. Another thing is that I am scared to death of natural catastrophes as tornados, earth quakes and gigant waves. *lol* Well Idaho seems to be a place safe from this type of danger and thats why I believe that the place would be a great place to move to if a man want some peace of mind. And if they are suspicious about the feds up there - They are maby as suspicius as I am towards my own gov? I dont now *lol* But I am no extremist only a sad critic of my own -socialist- gov. Includes every party in sweden. :D

Northern Idaho in general would be an excellent choice to for all of those things. So would Montana and Wyoming (least populated state in the USA, antelope actually outnumber people 2 to 1   ) for that matter. Focussing specifically on Almost Heaven might be problematic. The Feds are probably going to catch Gritz and his group doing something illegal at some point. I'd keep your options open -- there's lots of places that would work incredibly well for what you're thinking of. The Intermountain West (Rocky Mountains) affords plenty of very good choices. I'd rate the Windriver Mountains of Wyoming as my first choice -- less people, more unspoiled nature, beautiful area.

Erm ... there you have a problem. Its not a significant earthquake zone, but there are plenty of faultlines running through that area. Large earthquakes are definitely possible. Also, you have the largest Volcano on the planet -- the Yellowstone Supervolcano -- right in your backyard. Its due to errupt anytime in the next 1,000 years or so ... But you are right about being immune to hurricanes, tsunamis, giant floods and definitely no worries about there being too many people around.

Well, the Neo-Nazi and ultra-conservative religious groups would be better off just avoided. Just go do your own thing if you ask me.

Well one thing is for sure.... I dont want to run in to any more Neo-Nazis over here in sweden they hit everything on two legs so they are crazy people in my eyes. They are as crazy as the extream left-wing equivalent dangerous and hits everything that dont hate america and have "high and tight" haircut. I have the american flag on my "Flack-jacket" when I leave this appartment and I live in a left-wing party runned county but It is my right to ware what the hell I want. But one good thing with Neo-nazis is that if you get trapped between Neo-nazis and left-wing they attack each other rather then kick my sorry ass of this planet where I can later on find my **** on mars or something. They often come in groups of 8-10 or more people, often armed with nightsticks or knifes and even tear/pepper-spray and other fun improviced weapons. Then we have our imigrants that are as dangerous as them all togheter, often they want your wallet, mobile telephone, jacket or wife. So yes I think Almost Heaven is as it sounds - Almost a heaven but no thanx I want a place where I can escape all this nuts.

Target system activated:
Windriver Mountains of Wyoming sounds like the right spot to me but will keep all options opend. Yellowstone Supervolcano DoH! Large earthquakes DoH! I am scarred to death for natural catastrophes but it sounds like it is 1-100 chance to get hit over there. Thanx alot godofthunder9010 for your help sir. :D

As I read the posts here, I remember that every flag on here has a large number of immigrants here. I have a hard time trying to imagine what America would be like without our diversity. Think of all the scientific discoveries that would not have happened without people coming together as one and living and working in total harmony. When you think of every country that has contributed to our wealth, happiness, Government, and just everyday life you can list them literally from names ranging from A through Z. In most closed countries, a person can be taken from one area and set down in another within the country and be just like everyone else. Not so here, they may be different but they have two things in common, they're free and American. Just think of how many different countries lost citizens in the Twin Towers.

If America was not a/the true melting pot of the World, She would be an empty one. Remember our motto, E Pluribus Unum. That was not adopted without much consideration.

I seems to me that we are more of a mosaic than a melting pot. Many groups keep some form of their ethnic traditions, foods, etc. for many generations. Some of these become incorporated into general culture of America while others never do yet they may still remain within a specific group. That's why I think a mosaic might best describe what we are. What do you think?

i would like to think of america as more of a mixed salad, or something along those lines anyway (sorry, i'm bad with food analogies). DTop is right, we're a mix of so many different cultures that make up our own. during our population boom of the 1800s and 1900s people gave up their own cultures to assimilate into the american culture. i know this first hand, my grandmother was told, when she was growing up, to not speak chinese because it wasn't american. people forgot where they came from sometimes, i think that was really wrong. but what's nice about now is that people are trying to get back in touch with their roots. they're relearning their ethnic languages and we don't condone people for being foreign or participating in one of their cultural events. which is why i don't believe we're a melting pot so much anymore.

we don't condone people for being foreign or participating in one of their cultural events.
I'm pretty sure you meant that we don't condemn people. I know what your grandmother meant. When I grew up I had a Chinese friend and he refused to speak Chinese even when the teacher asked him to in front of the class. I have known this man for 40 years and have never heard him speak one syllable on Chinese. I also grew up with Italian and Spanish friends who did the same thing.
Back then it seemed that when immigrants came to America they wanted their kids to fit in and become "Americanized" ASAP. They thought that was the way to give their kids access to all the benefits this country had to offer. You know what? At the time, considering the intolerance you spoke about, they were right. I'm sure that being of European stock made it a lot easier for some.
I think it's good that we are now embracing the cultural differences a lot more these days. Still, there's always room for improvement.

Yeah, I like the mosaic analogy. As long as each piece is necessary to form the complete picture. One of my heroes, not simply because of my German heritage, is Charles P. Steinmetz. This is my idea of coming to America disadvantaged and turning that into almost unrivaled success. It's pretty long but you can't help but keep reading once you read the first paragraph.

http://chem.ch.huji.ac.il/~eugeniik/history/steinmetz.html

Everyone who's studied electricity has heard of Steinmetz but That was a very interesting story. I wasn't aware of the details of his life. He was certainly an amazing man.

Although we really can't see what sort of firearms they were using, the report of the AK-47 can be easily distinguished immediately from the distance. But, that's not what I had in mind when during that situation, I was scared to h*ll!!!

Did you know a 30-30 has the almost the same ballistics as a 7.62x39? And more than a AK47 uses the 7.62x39 including US made weapons. I have heard the 30-30, SKS and AK47 up close from both ends, unless you see the weapon, it would be hard to distinguish what weapon was being fired.

Although I have never heard of a 30-30 or SKS report before, they might be using some other 7.62X39 rifle, but I don't know. Nevertheless, they were definetly rifle shots on auto.

Before "thinking" about going to US of A, you gotta to inform how bad it is when a man/woman is fired from the company, they will get NOTHING, no medical care, no money, nothing.

That's why workers in the United States are so hardworking. They know that if they are laid off or fired, they have no recourse and no means of support...hence, they work their asses off and try their best not to get fired. However, in a socialist or communist nation, there is no incentive to work hard because if you get fired, you're supported by the government and don't have to worry about money. This is exactly the idea that Gorbachev based his Glasnost/Perestroika plans off of for the Soviet Union.

And about the AK-series of weapons, all but the newest NATO 5.56 series Kalashnikov rifles have a very distinctive report. It's qa much more hollow sound in a way than other rifles. This includes both the 7.62mm AK-47 and the 5.45mm AKS-74U.

7.62x39 and a 30-30 are within 50 fps at muzzle and 100 meters, same length barrel and a semiauto action will produce the same sound when using the Soviet std and a 124 grain 30-30. The sound is based on the action type, bullet velocity and bullet type, not the weapon manufacturer. Also, a Ruger Mini-30 has the exact same sound as any AK as it should since it is using the same ammo.
