Sadly, the last few years have led me to believe that the internet does need to be "controlled", as far this legislation goes, I am not sure I see the point as it aims to protect us from:
  • child sexual abuse
  • controlling or coercive behaviour
  • extreme sexual violence
  • extreme pornography
  • fraud
  • racially or religiously aggravated public order offences
  • inciting violence
  • illegal immigration and people smuggling
  • promoting or facilitating suicide
  • intimate image abuse
  • selling illegal drugs or weapons
  • sexual exploitation
  • terrorism
Which as far as I can tell are already illegal so I will assume this is an assignment of responsibility from basically no one to the platforms allowing users to participate in this type of behavior which on the face of it I support, there is the concern about how it will be enforced, I would hate to be charged with fraud for entering "frequently" in the "Sex:" field of an application form for example.

In my opinion the greatest problem online, these days isn't really any of those crimes (as they are already illegal) it is the spreading of disinformation; I would sooner see laws making users responsible for the information they post.
 
I can see a lot of forums closing, I own a forum that caters for owners of guinea pigs, it is one of the largest in the world. We've already taken steps by making it strictly 18+ membership and deleting any underage accounts.

Surely with decent moderators you wouldn't have issues?

It also seems that these laws are aimed at the large providers like X, Facebook etc.
 
I have an excellent teams of mods who are switched on, the main social media culprits are the ones who are going to be bricking it, the 18m fine is peanuts to their owners though.
