1) China does not have a big enough amphibious fleet
2) Japanese navy is probably 2nd to the US in terms of power in the region
3) Japan has a large modern airforce
4) Japan has the industrial capacity to reproduce most military machinery
BUT
Japan relies on australia for a lot of energy and resources, as well as middle east countries and if these supply lines are cut which they probably would be then it would either mean supplies have to travel a much further distance, to the US and then to japan, but china could threaten this supply route but then that would involve the US in the the war
