yer the Afrikaners are descendant of the original dutch colonists on the cape set up to supply dutch merchant vessels. but when the british showed up and took the cape they took off inland and cut their ties with the motherland...
afrikaans compared to dutch is probably like Shakespearean English compared to modern English you would understand the concept of what they were saying but don't understand it word for word...'
